NATIONAL WILDLIFE WEEKBring the natural world into your classroom during National Wildlife Week. From April 22-28, turn your students into tree detectives, animal observers, and explorers of their own neighborhoods. We've gathered animal puzzles, wildlife vocabulary, mammal quizzes, and other activities to help you teach your students about plants and animals.

POETRY MONTH

Celebrate Poetry Month by filling your April lessons with lyrical activities. Teach your students forms of expression with a shape poem, a haiku, or recycled poetry. Introduce your class to poetic language and increase students' vocabulary with quizzes and worksheets. Browse our activities for more ideas on how to have fun with words!

MATHEMATICS EDUCATION MONTH

Students will learn about different forms of pollution. Students will learn about the environmental impact of pollution. Students will learn about global warming. Students will get ideas of things they can do to make a difference.

April is Alcohol and Drug Awareness month. These are serious and important topics, and we have lessons and information that will help you cover them. Use the cigarette fact sheet and lesson plans to educate your students on the effects of smoking. Refer to the Alcohol-Related Traffic Fatalities and Drug Use by Americans fact sheets to stimulate activities and discussions.

HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY

Discover outstanding Web resources to help your class understand the importance of Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is celebrated on April 20, 2002. April fools, April showers, April in Paris. It's National Poetry Month too, which focuses this year on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Langston Hughes. In April, Americans will also observe Math Awareness Month and National Kite Month. On April 22, 2002, people around the world will celebrate the 32nd Earth Day.
